Don't Let Holiday Lighting Damage Your Windows

If you're like many other homeowners then you look forward to decorating your home with holiday lighting. While installing holiday lights isn't overly difficult, homeowners do need to take special care for those projects which involve lighting around or near windows.

A home's windows are easily damaged by both human carelessness while installing holiday lighting and by the lights themselves. Homeowners need also be aware of the cords that supports holiday lighting. Cords can easily drop or sag and can scratch windows. Furthermore a sagging or dropping cord can easily smash its light bulbs against a home's windows which can result in cracking and spider webbing.

In order to avoid damaging windows while setting up holiday lighting homeowners should consider covering windows while installing their lights and/or asking a second party to assist them in their task. Having an extra pair of hands present during installation can help assure that cords don't drop while an extra pair of eyes can help ensure that lights are not only being put up properly but are in their proper location as well.

Although taking precautions can save your windows it's inevitable that some damage will eventually be incurred on somebody's windows. If you're one of those unfortunate individuals please be sure to contact us as we offer a number of different glass restoration services. Will have your windows looking like new in no time!

Orange County Pressure Washing: When Washing With Pressure

Pressure washing takes skill and if you’re considering it, you should learn the necessary procedures to do it properly. Here, we’ll give you just the fundamentals of Orange County pressure washing. Choosing the proper tools would be the first suggestion.

There are several different pressure washers, and you can pick and choose the one that will help you get the job done. First of all turn on your garden hose and the water will come out of the hose about 8 gallons in one minute. Then a spray gun that attaches to your hose will spray about 5 gallons in one minute.

A pressure washer is the extreme and there are gas powered and electric motors that boosts the water pressure to 1,000 PSI (per square inch) to 4,000 per square inch. Of course they clean much better than an ordinary spray gun attached to your hose.

The gas powered pressure washers are more powerful than the electric, and you can rent one of those if you prefer. If you’re just planning on cleaning your patio, garage floor, or your concrete driveway, it would probably be better to rent the machine. Even if you have large jobs to do, rent the different machines before you buy one because they are expensive.

Follow the directions you receive when you buy or rent the machine. It is very important that you don’t aim and blast windows for they will obviously break. Practice with the pressure so you won’t aim at the wrong things, and be very cautious when children or pets are around.

Those pressure washers are great when it is time to clean your tire wheels, or oil on your garage floors.
You can also clean the sides and eaves of your home but like we said before, don’t use them on your windows.

You will also want to purchase solutions that are recommended for your pressure washer. Don’t substitute cleaners from around your home, because they don’t work as well.

Other suggestions that might work well for you: Never use a ladder when using a pressure washer; cover all outdoor electric outlets; never use bleach; always wear goggles to protect your eyes; around windows, work at an angle; invest in interchangeable nozzles and tips; spray the chemicals on the item you are cleaning, let it sit for about five minutes, then spray it off with clear water.

When used properly, nothing works better than a pressure washer.

Homemade Window Cleaning Solutions: Safe And Effective

In previous posts we have discussed how homeowners may wish to clean their own windows in between professional cleanings but we have yet to offer tips on how to create an effective window cleaning formula for those small cleaning jobs. There are a number of different solutions that homeowners can create on their own that will leave their windows sparkling and streak free.
  • One of the best solutions that homeowners can concoct are those made from vinegar. Vinegar is an excellent choice for cleaning windows because it removes oil and smears from windows with relative ease.
  • Homeowners might also want to consider utilizing or creating a cleaning solution made of rubbing alcohol because rubbing alcohol evaporates quickly without leaving any marks behind. Moreover rubbing alcohol can be combined with most household soaps to create a potent and effective cleaning solution.
  • Cleaning solutions made of club soda and used with a flannel cloth can be very effective in cleaning windows when you want windows that are smudge free. You need a little bit of baking soda with the club soda but this will eliminate sticky spots from windows.
As we've mentioned previously in other posts there are many different types of glass used in the windows of homes and not all solutions are safe on all types of glass so it's wise to consult a professional window cleaner before you put together a solution to do the job yourself.

Should you have questions about how to make a safe and effective cleaning solution for your windows be sure to contact us and we'll be happy to assist you.

Finding a Residential Window Cleaning Service

Professional window cleaning is a true convenience for many homeowners. Even in the best neighborhoods homes and their windows can become covered with dirt and grime in just a short period of time. For most homeowners the thought of cleaning their windows is just too much and they therefore hire a professional to save both time and hassle.

Selecting the right professional window cleaning service however isn't as easy as randomly picking one from the Yellow Pages or from the Internet. There are many different professional window cleaning services out there and homeowners need to be wary of both a company's reputation and quality of work.

Speaking with a number of different professional window cleaning services or representatives from those companies will yield a lot of information that should be taken into consideration. Homeowners should be on the lookout for those professional window cleaners that offer free estimates and be wary of those that don't. Any professional that wants to leave you in the dark prior to doing a job should be avoided.

After speaking with representatives of those window cleaning services are homeowners interested in, parties should then seek out reviews, testimonials, and even try to speak with people who've hired those professionals before. Once a professional's good reputation and a fair price have been confirmed homeowners can then begin to consider the smaller less prominent details they want in a professional window cleaner.

Should you have any questions about the work we do or should you like to view testimonials from our clients be sure to both visit our website and/or contact us for assistance!

Preparing Your Windows For A Professional Cleaning

When you hire a professional window cleaner it's only natural to expect that your windows will be left looking like new. There are things you can do however in order to assist the professional you've hired before they arrive at your home.
  • Dusting the window sills of those windows which you intend to have cleaned will help the professional you hired leave your windows looking great as it will eliminate dust and dirt kick up while they're working. If left unclean dust and dirt can quickly return your windows to their former lackluster appearance.

  • Clearing all debris and moving furniture away from windows prior to the arrival of a professional will ensure that they are able to get to work right away and will also minimize dirt and dust kick ups as well. Even the cleanest furniture often produces dust when used or moved around.

  • Let the person you've hired know in advance of anything that might hinder them or make their job overly difficult. Any special instructions you have for your windows also help the professional you hired come prepared and enables them to do their job more effectively. Special requests and instructions not given until they arrive can slow the process and sometimes result in additional fees.
Should you have any questions about the aforementioned tips or about how to repair your home/windows for a professional window cleaning please be sure to contact us so that we may help!

Keeping Your Windows Clean Yourself: Part II

In our previous post we talked a bit about how to keep that special sparkle on your windows once professionals have done their job and left. In this post we will continue with that topic and offer a few more tips for those homeowners who want to keep their windows look great in between professional cleanings.

Homeowners are often befuddled by and unable to properly clean windows that are greasy or "smokey". This is easily remedied however by applying some vinegar to your cleaning water. Vinegar eats away grease and won't leave streaks on your windows.

If you have windows on your home that are out of reach or up high then you'll definitely want to utilize a ladder when you clean them. For safety's sake you'll want someone to hold the ladder for you and if yours has them, be sure its safety clips are on. Cleaning windows on a ladder can be hazardous and employing the help of a friend or partner will ensure you stay safe.

Sprays are always more convenient to use while cleaning windows than are buckets of water. This is especially true if you're going to be cleaning windows that require you to be on a ladder. Moreover buckets of water and cleaning solution can spill easily whereas sprays do not.

These tips should help you keep your windows looking great in between visits from professional window cleaners. Should you have questions about these tips or should you like to book a professional cleaning please be sure to contact us so that we may be of assistance!

Orange County Window Cleaning: Cleaning Windows Again

When you live in an area like the desert or Southern California you know that you can’t always trust the weather especially when there are clouds growing darker every minute. Often times those dark clouds move on and never even one drop of rain will be seen. So often you listen to the weather station to find out if rain is expected. When you’re pretty sure there will be no rain you get out your cleaning equipment and get ready to tackle your window cleaning again.

No sooner have you almost finished when the wind starts to blow, and in many areas, sand blows along with it. You pick up your stuff and take it all into the house or garage and before you close the garage door, you feel rain drops. No, that can’t be, my windows are clean. That’s right, but your windows were clean, but no longer.

You may have to wait for another two or three days before the weather again appears stable so pick up that bucket, sponge, clean towels, window cleaning solution, or just dish soap and water. Whatever you choose to clean your windows, get busy so your windows will be clean before company arrives on the weekend.

The first thing you need to do is to get the hose with a hand sprinkler on it that you can turn off and on. Spray all of the windows to wash off the soiled sand and rain, be sure to rinse off the ledge and area around your windows. Turn the hose off, and another hint for success. Clean the windows on the side of your house where the sun isn’t shining on them yet. You can do the other side when the sun moves in the afternoon. When you wash your windows in the sun you end up with streaks.

Take the sponge and dump it in the soapy water, then scrub the windows and area around them especially the ledge. Wash one area at a time, and before the windows dry, get the hose with a good pressure of water and rinse the area clearing off all the soap. Then you may want to let them air dry, or if you prefer get one of the clean towels and wipe the window down, then get another clean towel and shine the window. That final step really helps.

Check the sky again and take all the equipment you’ve used, turn the water off, and start on the inside, but leave the bucket and drippy sponge outside and use the spray instead.

Between professional window cleaning it's important to address small issues with windows yourself. Even the best professional cleaning job can't keep windows from becoming slightly dirty although a job well done can help protect them from excessive dirt and grime. To help you windows look their best in between professional cleanings there are a few things you can do:
  • When you clean your windows yourself make sure that you dry your windows in just one direction. Drying to either the left or to the right will ensure that you don't leave any unpleasant streaks on the glass.
  • Before you wipe down any windows be sure to remove all dust from them so
that when you use a wet cloth to wipe them down you're not creating mud that
will dry out and even possibly stain your window.
  • When you clean your window sills be sure to rub the entire service with a
damp cloth that's been sprayed with a tiny bit of alcohol so that spots come off
easily and you're left with a beautiful shine.
  • All windows are extremely sensitive to dirt. It is therefore advisable to
keep your cleaning water is clean as possible and even refill it once it starts
to look murky. This will ensure that streaks and mud aren't left behind on your
