Easy Methods of Cleaning Glass Shower Doors

Pick a chore that you least like to do, and cleaning glass shower doors would be right at the top of the list. Especially if you have never been in the habit of cleaning it right after you take your shower. If more than one person showers in the stall or tub, you’ve got a problem.

First you’ll have to tackle the job from a professional’s point of view, and you’ll need to know what you’re up against.

Do you have hard water? If so you probably have hard water stains. There are products at your grocery or hardware stores. One is called CLR, it is powerful, and hopefully you’ll only have to use it once. Just follow the directions, or if you don’t want to use harsh chemicals, try lemon oil. It works well to remove those stains. Then go to the next step.

Soap scum and grime or just plain dirt. Again there are products that work to remove the scum and dirt. They are available at those same stores mentioned above. Again, if you prefer more natural products, not to mention cheaper, try mixing ½ cup of white vinegar and ½ cup of hot water. Run the hot water in your bathroom to create steam. Then apply the mixture on your glass shower doors and let it sit for a minimum of five minutes. Wipe it down with a clean wet sponge or if you prefer, use a squeegee.

You can continue using these methods every time you can’t see through the glass shower door. Or a much easier process, and one that will keep the door and the walls of your shower clean, wipe them down every time you or someone else uses the shower. Insist that everyone in your family does the same thing.

After you’ve cleaned the shower with those harsh chemicals, wipe it thoroughly down with the lemon oil, and apply it regularly. Then all you’ll need to do is rinse the glass shower door and the walls in your shower with a clean damp cloth or squeegee. You’ll be amazed how much easier it is to keep the glass shower door clean.

There is another way though. If you hire a professional to clean the windows in your home, ask how much more it would cost to clean your glass shower doors. Surely there is someone who will do it for a price.

Scratches on Glass Can Be Removed

Up until about five years ago, the only way to remove the scratches on glass would be to replace the entire piece of glass. Needless to say that is expensive no matter the size of the glass. Now there are glass scratch removal and restoration systems, and no they aren’t cheap. The cost, depending on the company, ranges from $1,600 to over $4,000 and aren’t necessarily for a single homeowner.

However, if you are in the glass business, over a period of time, that cost would pay for itself. There are businesses that deal in the restoration of glass and when you buy their system, the instructions and follow-up sessions are free. Yes we said free, and if your company has a large amount of breakage the glass restoration systems will be worth their weight.

Glass companies know that the greatest amount of breakage happens before, during and shortly after installation and with the restoration system, you can easily remove the scratches within five to thirty minutes. Larger and deeper scratches may take longer. Anytime you work around construction, breakage or simply scratches will occur. When a business takes the necessary steps to learn a new process, they will get in on the ground floor of a growing venture.

A few of the things you should know and look for when seeking any new business procedure: You’ll want to know how efficient their system is in removing scratches. Some suggest that you should use six inches as your template. Next, ask how the system works to remove deep scratches, and are there any limitations? Can the system repair the edges of glass, and how about replacement costs?

You’ll also want to know other material costs, and are there warranties provided by the company? Finally what type of training opportunities, and are they ongoing?

When your replacement glass costs reach into the thousands, you will be anxious to invest in a product that will improve your bottom line. Also it will improve your time on the job, so time and money savings will be hard to turn down.

The scratch restoration systems allow you to repair a wide variety of damage and when you consider that you’ll have an alternative solution you’ll be anxious to learn more about the product. When it’s necessary to replace damaged glass you not only pay for the glass itself, but for the labor charges, and that can be extensive. Another possibility would be to open another door for your business, and that is the glass repair business.

Removing Water Spots From Windows

Unless you possess the knowledge to do so, keeping your windows clean in between visits from a professional can be challenging. Even after windows are professionally cleaned and treated with chemicals that strengthen them and make them resistant to weather, windows still accumulate water spots rather easily when they are cleaned by a layperson. While many people typically utilize Windex or some other brand of glass cleaner to remove water spots these chemicals don't always do so effectively and can leave streaks on windows; making them even more difficult and frustrating to clean. Individuals can keep their windows free of water spots by following the tips below.

The longer water spots sit on windows the more difficult they become to remove. This is why it's important to remove them from windows as soon they are noticed. Removing them sooner rather than later makes it more likely that they'll come off easier with far less effort and chemicals than they would if left alone for any amount of time. It's important to check windows regularly to ensure that there are no water spots which need tending to.

The simplest and most effective home remedy for water spots is white vinegar. Individuals can apply a small amount of white vinegar to a soft cloth, wipe a window that has water spots, and watch those spots disappear relatively quickly. This method is a favorite among homeowners not only because it's simple and effective but because most homeowners have vinegar somewhere in their home.

Another option for removing water spots is to utilize a small amount of rubbing alcohol first and then Windex shortly after. As Windex doesn't always do the job itself however, using a little rubbing alcohol first will often do the trick. The alcohol breaks up the stains and loosen them while the Windex removes them as it cleans the glass. Rubbing alcohol and the Windex can also be applied to a paper towel which then can be gently rubbed across a window with water spots.

Many professional window cleaners advise homeowners to try using microfiber cloths when other methods aren't working. These can be found at local grocery stores as well as home supply stores and work quite nicely on windows with water spots. What makes these cloths a great cleaning option is the fact that they usually don't require any soap or chemicals as the cloth alone does the trick.

While all of the aforementioned options will remove water spots from windows, homeowners should first consult with a professional window cleaner in order to determine whether or not their windows are capable of handling these or any combination of said chemicals. Not all windows are made the same and some chemicals can damage not only glass but the preservatives put there during a previous professional window cleaning.

Don't Let Holiday Lighting Damage Your Windows

If you're like many other homeowners then you look forward to decorating your home with holiday lighting. While installing holiday lights isn't overly difficult, homeowners do need to take special care for those projects which involve lighting around or near windows.

A home's windows are easily damaged by both human carelessness while installing holiday lighting and by the lights themselves. Homeowners need also be aware of the cords that supports holiday lighting. Cords can easily drop or sag and can scratch windows. Furthermore a sagging or dropping cord can easily smash its light bulbs against a home's windows which can result in cracking and spider webbing.

In order to avoid damaging windows while setting up holiday lighting homeowners should consider covering windows while installing their lights and/or asking a second party to assist them in their task. Having an extra pair of hands present during installation can help assure that cords don't drop while an extra pair of eyes can help ensure that lights are not only being put up properly but are in their proper location as well.

Although taking precautions can save your windows it's inevitable that some damage will eventually be incurred on somebody's windows. If you're one of those unfortunate individuals please be sure to contact us as we offer a number of different glass restoration services. Will have your windows looking like new in no time!

Preparing Your Windows For A Professional Cleaning

When you hire a professional window cleaner it's only natural to expect that your windows will be left looking like new. There are things you can do however in order to assist the professional you've hired before they arrive at your home.
  • Dusting the window sills of those windows which you intend to have cleaned will help the professional you hired leave your windows looking great as it will eliminate dust and dirt kick up while they're working. If left unclean dust and dirt can quickly return your windows to their former lackluster appearance.

  • Clearing all debris and moving furniture away from windows prior to the arrival of a professional will ensure that they are able to get to work right away and will also minimize dirt and dust kick ups as well. Even the cleanest furniture often produces dust when used or moved around.

  • Let the person you've hired know in advance of anything that might hinder them or make their job overly difficult. Any special instructions you have for your windows also help the professional you hired come prepared and enables them to do their job more effectively. Special requests and instructions not given until they arrive can slow the process and sometimes result in additional fees.
Should you have any questions about the aforementioned tips or about how to repair your home/windows for a professional window cleaning please be sure to contact us so that we may help!

Keeping Your Windows Clean Yourself: Part II

In our previous post we talked a bit about how to keep that special sparkle on your windows once professionals have done their job and left. In this post we will continue with that topic and offer a few more tips for those homeowners who want to keep their windows look great in between professional cleanings.

Homeowners are often befuddled by and unable to properly clean windows that are greasy or "smokey". This is easily remedied however by applying some vinegar to your cleaning water. Vinegar eats away grease and won't leave streaks on your windows.

If you have windows on your home that are out of reach or up high then you'll definitely want to utilize a ladder when you clean them. For safety's sake you'll want someone to hold the ladder for you and if yours has them, be sure its safety clips are on. Cleaning windows on a ladder can be hazardous and employing the help of a friend or partner will ensure you stay safe.

Sprays are always more convenient to use while cleaning windows than are buckets of water. This is especially true if you're going to be cleaning windows that require you to be on a ladder. Moreover buckets of water and cleaning solution can spill easily whereas sprays do not.

These tips should help you keep your windows looking great in between visits from professional window cleaners. Should you have questions about these tips or should you like to book a professional cleaning please be sure to contact us so that we may be of assistance!

Clean Windows Can Be Tinted Windows

It's not only important to keep windows clean for the obvious aesthetic reasons but to control light flow and heat as well. Damaged and dirty windows make applying different types of window coverings and even window film difficult if not impossible. In some cases a window may be so badly scratched, damaged, or dirty that it renders trying to control heat and light flow futile at best.

When windows are clean however many homeowners and sometimes business owners elect to utilize some sort of window film to manage the heat and light that both come in and leave a home or specific room.

Window film or window tint as it's more commonly known comes in a wide variety of different grades, darkness, and even gradients. There's even a window tint known as "one-way mirror" which keeps anyone on the outside from seeing in.

In order for window tinting to remain intact and fully functional windows must be cleaned prior to its application. A professional window cleaning is advisable prior to the application of tints to ensure that windows are at their cleanest as even windows that are slightly dirty or contain trace amounts of contaminants can cause window tints to peel and fold away rather quickly which costs homeowners money and time.

Should you have any questions about protecting your windows or be in need of a professional window cleaning please be sure to contact us that we may be of assistance!

Orange County Glass Restoration: Graffiti Removal

Among some of the more valuable services that professional window cleaners offer are glass restoration services. Both homeowners and owners of professional structures often call on the pros when they have windows or glass that has been damaged. Of all the different types of damage a window or glass can incur, it is perhaps graffiti that plagues those windows more than any other. Even in the best of neighborhoods graffiti is a difficult thing to eradicate and even more difficult to remove from windows and glass.

Professionals with great experience in glass restoration have both the tools and the experience needed to remove graffiti completely and restore windows and glass fixtures to their original luster. These individuals/firms are adept at removing not only paints from windows but all the other various chemicals and items that unscrupulous individuals use when tagging up buildings. In some cases once the graffiti has been carefully removed from windows and glass, professionals might apply some type of anti-graffiti film or coating to a building in order to not only dissuade taggers from marking a building in the future but to make the cleaning easier and more affordable should they ever come back and do so again.

While many building owners might be under the impression that graffiti removal is too expensive this is no longer the case. In years and decades past the service costs a bit more but modern technology, tools, and chemicals allow professionals to remove graffiti with little to no difficulty. These advances also allow professionals to remove graffiti from not just small commercial buildings but large ones as well. Removing graffiti from restaurants, bars, hotels, casinos, and some retail stores is not uncommon for professionals.

As graffiti is generally considered an eyesore, especially on professional structures, it's important to have it removed as quickly as possible. Professionals who work with windows and glass realize this and as a result many now offer emergency services and some go so far as to offer 24-hour graffiti removal services. Of course these emergency services may cost a business owner a bit more but when it comes to the reputation of his/her building and/or business, you won't find too many business owners complaining about costs.

Even if you live in a neighborhood that's generally considered good and you've never been the victim of graffiti; you know, as a business owner, that it's wise to protect your investments and to take preventative measures against such things in order to reduce costs. A simple Internet search will yield a large number of window and glass professionals that can both help remove and prevent graffiti from damaging your structure.

Glass Restoration Services

Adding new windows to a newly built home or to a home that is in the midst of a remodeling project can be extremely expensive. Both homeowners and contractors working with these types of projects will always be looking for ways to save money and stay within a budget. When dealing with just about any type of glass, both professionals and lay persons working with them must be careful and take great care not to damage them in any way lest they be forced to spend more money.

This isn't so easy however when you're dealing homeowners performing an amateur installation and with new construction projects that are constantly stirring up dirt, dust, and even rocks. During these processes windows and even mirrors can become scratched, cracked, and in worst case scenarios completely destroyed. What many individuals, including professional contractors, do not always realize however is that many windows that have been scratched or damaged by caked on debris such as paint can be professionally restored at a fraction of what it would cost to replace entire window or set of windows.

Professional Orange County window cleaners are, more often than not, also extremely experienced and adapt at glass restoration. While many of their clients often do not realize these services are available, those individuals who do utilize them will tell you that they are invaluable and save them both time and money. More often than not individuals who believe their windows to be beyond repair are often mistaken in their assumption and unfortunately rush out to purchase new windows or glass without ever consulting a professional.

While a good professional can repair even a heavily damaged and scratched window it's important to remember that there are indeed windows that cannot be repaired, even by the most experienced professional. Windows that have spider webbed, chipped, or shattered cannot be repaired and will need to be replaced. Orange County glass restoration services are indeed a saving grace for many homeowners but it does have its limits.

If you're wondering where to find a reputable professional to restore your windows or other glass fixture, the Internet is a fantastic place to start your search. It's not a bad idea to do a simple search for window cleaners, call them up, and ask them if they offer restoration services. There are many that do it and it's likely you'll be surprised at just how many are in your immediate area. Just be sure that prior to committing to any one professional you do your research by reading reviews and speaking with some of their past clientele. This will ensure that you're getting not only your money's worth but a dependable and reliable service as well.
